I've had alot of probs with my 13 year old lately, generally being extremely gobby and rude, coming home whenever she pleases, smoking etc however things got alot worse over the last week.

I was tidying her room as I was fed up with the smell of toxic waste wafting from it lol and discovered a hoard of very expensive make up and clothes which she said a friend had given her. I got in contact with the frinds mum who said that she knew nothing about it and after interrogating my daughter for hours it turns out the little madam has been on shoplifting sprees with her mates.

I wasn't sure how to handle it and thought the best way was a short sharp shock so I phoned the police and got them to come round and give her a king size telling off and confiscate all the stuff which she had stolen, and then I grounded her for a fortnight.

Now though I'm not sure if I've been a bit too harsh and wonder if I've done the right thing as the visit from the police really upset my daughter.

What do you think.... advice needed please.
